Summer, Is that you?

I wore shorts the other day, and it was quite wonderful. To be warm, to be outside, and to be playing with dogs…that’s the life! Of course, I did get a sunburn, but I am prepared for even more sun (bring it on!). I did not anticipate, however, the amount of licking that would be done to my knees…took some getting used to. Warmer days are ahead, folks, which means lots of swimming, rolling around in the grass and napping in the shade with friends. What could be better?

Willy enjoys scholarly pursuits. Like snoozing, panting, and drooling.

Goodbye, Leo. Hello, Gus.

Canyon and Ruka, Cheezin’ for the camera.

We may have gotten a bit lost in all that grass…

This is Peggy Sue. She is blind, but that certainly does not stop her from enjoying the great outdoors with friends.

Miles is just too cool for school.

Yes, Monty?

Swimming? eeehhh… I don’t think so.

Rudy just got his license. Watch out, world!

Classic Rudy and Dodger.

After all this time, Gus finally told me his most intimate secret: He is, in fact, an otter.

To say Lena was enjoying this particular grass roll would be quite an understatement.

Come on in, the water’s fine!

Canyon likes to chase birds in the sky. Keeps her very busy!

Rudy and Trekker had a slight disagreement about who this stick actually belonged to.

Julie takes it easy.

Duncan is ready for his close-up.

Old man Guiness, catching some rays.

Computers…if only they were more like dogs

Well, folks I had a lot of great photos. I mean a LOT of GREAT photos. Photos of your fantastic and sometimes fanatical dogs, enjoying themselves in the sun (and not-so-sun) of Happy Dog. Alas, computers can be fickle, and mine seems to have eaten most of the photos from the past two weeks. Luckily, I managed to save a few before they were cast into the void of my hard drive, never to be seen again. So if you haven’t seen your dog on here yet, don’t worry, you will. I take plenty of pictures. You’ll just have to imagine how great the ones I lost were. Are you picturing them? Good. Let’s move on.

I think the dogs and I need a theme song. Something loud. With plenty of trumpets.

Canyon likes watching the boys try to find the ball. Then giggling to herself “There never even was a ball! Muahahaha!”

Watch out, Michael Phelps. Fredi’s got you beat.

Gus and Gracie, often caught in very pensive, artsy moments.

Oh hey, Brody. I didn’t see you there.

Somebody has the ball here…I just know it!

Russell has been a heartbreaker from day one. Monty’s got his eye on more important things. Tadpoles?

Sunshine, flowers and…dog breath?

Strange how the weather has been taunting us lately. It’s warm– then rainy–then sunny?–then cloudy. Whatever the weather, the dogs are out exploring at full speed, chasing each other and sniffing deliciously sniffable things.

Dex is quite good at running in all directions. Here I caught him in a rare moment of stillness.

Playin’ fetch in the goat pen. So many fun smells!

Gus enjoys the finer things in life, like finding tennis balls in the grass.

Often times, the best thing to do is just put your head down and follow the butt in front of you.

See Lena Run. Run, Lena, Run!

Everyone, to the woods!

Blue skies…

Shana decides that “yeah, this exploring stuff is great, but I really like napping in puddles.”

Toby shows off his skills as a water dog! The labs are curious.

Spring Blossoms

Sumo’s Glamour shot.

Toby thinks about swimming a lot, but only once did he dare go in.

Parker is all smiles!

They smell wonderful!

Spring Break 2011

Well, it may not be the Bahamas, but Spring Break was a blast here at Happy Dog. We had plenty of dogs which kept us plenty busy. With so many dogs to play with, everybody was good and exhausted by the end of the day. The group had tons of adventures, including finding a pond overflowing with tadpoles, and discovering all the wonderful new lush green grass that has recently sprung up (which is fantastic to roll in, I hear). Spring has certainly arrived, and although we had a few days of rain, the dogs hardly noticed. Fun in the sun and fun in the rain!

Roy likes to be the lookout.

Osa and Goose

Noses down, tails up! A common sight at Happy Dog.

Everyone needs to roll in the grass every once in a while, especially Max, who is a connoisseur of mud.

Ryder decided to go for a swim, then promptly regretted that decision, as the water was very cold.

Ah, what the heck. Everyone in!

Welcome to the Happy Dog Blog!

Greetings to all fellow canine lovers!

Welcome to the Happy Dog Blog, the official blog of the Happy Dog Day Camp. My name is Elizabeth. Some of you may know me as the random person who comes to your door and takes your energetic and excited dog away in a big white van, and brings him or her home at the end of the day feeling happy, tired, and sometimes a little dirty!

Darcy and I thought it might be a good idea to keep all the Happy Dog humans updated on what exactly it is that your dog does all day that makes him so darn happy! So we started this blog to keep you all informed on the activities and goings on at Happy Dog during the week.

Please check in here regularly for pictures, anecdotes and updates about your dog’s day camp experience. But please remember, any direct questions, concerns or scheduling inquiries should always be in a call or an email to Darcy at happydogpdx@hotmail.com

Check back soon!
